How to keep your employees happy and motivated

In reality, keeping your employees motivated and happy with their current situation can be quite challenging – especially when your business is going through growing pains in a fast-paced environment.

It is especially true for industries and companies with tough deadlines which require a lot of input and perhaps overtime from your employees during really busy periods.

Here are some tips to keep the employee engagement and motivation at the highest possible levels:

1. Offer them a challenge

Most employees will be motivated and focused as long as you offer them a challenge. Many times an employee will get tired of the same old tasks that need to be performed every day. They want a challenge, and the sheer idea of fulfilling a demanding/challenging task will breathe new life into their work.

2. Recognize their work and accomplishments

Something as simple as recognizing the value of a person during meetings can boost employee morale quite a lot. Also, you can opt for other ways to recognize accomplishments like offering a raise for example. All the little things matter, you just have to find the right way to showcase your appreciation at your own page.

3. Reward your employees

Challenging your employees can be effective, but you need to deliver on rewards of some description. You could offer the top performing employee(s) something, or reward your whole team.

You will find that offering meaningful rewards that let the team let their hair down creates a work hard, play hard culture, where your team are prepared to put in 110% to help push your business forward, with the understanding that they will get some downtime as a bit of a thank you.

4. Create a gamification system

Gamification offers some impressive benefits. By adding a levelling system, for example, you can motivate employees to boost their productivity and reach specific rewards.

Gamification works amazingly well for many startups all over the world. And the best part is that you can easily adapt it to your own needs if you want to.

5. Team building experiences

Team building events and experiences are always going to come in handy for boosting the employee morale. The best thing that you can do is to offer employees a way to relax and de-stress. Speaking of that, you can also offer paid vacations to select employees based on their accomplishments. Every simple gesture you do can have a huge impact on employee morale and motivation.

6. Encourage your employees to communicate and work together

It’s always a good idea to let your employees work together and share ideas. Not allowing them to communicate and putting specific blocks just to boost productivity will end up doing the opposite. The best thing that you can do is to take your time and integrate the right communication tools/platforms.

7. Ask for feedback

The last thing you want is to impose ideas and not require any feedback. Asking for feedback is always a very good idea because it encourages employees to speak and share what they have to say all the time. Sometimes employees can have a great idea, and at the same time, you also show them that you value their opinion.

One thing is certain, keeping your employees motivated and happy should be a crucial part of your business. There are always going to be pros and cons when it comes to keeping employees happy. But these tips and tricks will help keep you on the right track. Remember, your focus has to be on respecting and appreciating your employees as much as possible. Once you do that and bring in front some rewards as well, you won’t have a problem keeping your employees happy in the long run!
